Safety, Security and Infrastructure

The Office of Safety, Security and Infrastructure (SSI) develops, on behalf of the Director of the Office of Science (SC), SC-specific policies related to the management, operation, and overall well-being of the SC laboratories and also ensures their effective and consistent implementation across the SC complex. Policies are related to safeguards and security (S&S); environment, safety, and health (ES&H); facilities and infrastructure (F&I) management; enhancement of laboratory performance; improvement, extension, and competition of management and operating (M&O) contracts; Work for Others (WFO); and Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD).

SSI also administers and executes budgets for the complex-wide Science Laboratories Infrastructure (SLI) and S&S programs.

SSI supports the SC mission to foster, formulate, and support forefront basic and applied research programs which advance the science and technology foundations necessary to accomplish Department of Energy (DOE) missions.
