Advanced Scientific Computing Research
The Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) program's mission is to discover, develop, and deploy the computational and networking tools that enable scientific researchers to analyze, model, simulate, and predict complex physical, chemical, and biological phenomena important to The Department of Energy (DOE). This research is changing the ways in which modern science is conducted.
Through the DOE’s Office of Science the ASCR program is involved in several branches of science including computer science, basic research in applied mathematics and networking. ASCR per annum funds approximately 65 academic institutions and 10 Department of Energy (DOE) laboratories. In addition to supporting various branches of sciences through funding, ASCR also facilitates the success of DOE missions in environmental remediation, science, national security and energy. In addition there are quite a few research areas that benefit from ASCR resources including but not limited to high energy and nuclear physics; environmental and atmospheric research; structural biology; and medical research and technology development.
