ARGONNE LEADERSHIP COMPUTING FACILITY DEDICATED
The Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF) was dedicated on April 21, 2008 in a ceremony attended by key federal, state and local officials including Congress-woman Judy Biggert and the Department's Under Secretary for Science Dr. Raymond L. Orbach (pictured right). DOE makes the computing power of the ALCF available to a highly select group of researchers at universities, labs, publicly and privately held research organizations, and a few industrial concerns in the United States and overseas. Major ALCF projects are chosen by DOE through a competitive peer review program known as Innovative and Novel Computational Impact on Theory and Experiment (INCITE).

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT TOOLS
FOR PETASCALE SYSTEMS
The Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) will consider research grants in software development tools for improved ease-of-use of petascale systems. Software development tools serve as a key interface between application teams and target High Performance Computing architectures. This announcement is focused on research and development for innovations in petascale tools in each of these areas: correctness tools, performance tools, scalable tool infrastructure and development environments. Letters of Intent are due May 12.

THE 2008 SciDAC CONFERENCE
The Scientific Discovery through Advanced Computing (SciDAC) Conference has become the premier U.S. meeting on computational science - providing a venue for presenting scientific results, discussing new technologies and forming collaborations. The 2008 SciDAC Conference will be held July 13-17 at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle, Washington. It will bring together more than 300 scientists for four days of technical and scientific talks, poster sessions and informal discussions. For more information or to register, please follow the link:

2008 INCITE AWARDS ANNOUNCED
The 2008 supercomputing allocations were announced under DOE's Innovative and Novel Computational Impact on Theory and Experiment (INCITE) program, which supports large-scale, computationally intensive research projects. The 55 projects were together awarded 265 million processor-hours at ASCR’s Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee and the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility at Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois, the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California, and the Biological and Environmental Research program’s Molecular Science Computing Facility at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Washington.
