The Safety Challenge

The Office of Science (SC) complex is comprised of 10 national laboratories employing about 23,000 and serving over 18,000 visiting scientists. While each scientific facility provides unique one-of-a-kind scientific opportunities, they also present unique environment, safety, and health challenges. Given that some of the SC laboratories are located in environmentally sensitive areas or suburban areas, combined with the large and unique scientific facilities, the Office of Science must meet a serious challenge to achieve "Best-in-Class" safety status and maintain the public trust.
