SC Safety Program - Laboratories:There are three distinct levels for ensuring that an Office of Science (SC) Laboratory is meeting expectations. These three levels are the contractor, the SC Site Offices and SC Headquarters. SC has performance-based contracts with each of the 10 SC Laboratories, where safety performance is a performance metric within the contract. Each of the 10 SC Laboratories has been required to develop and implement an Integrated Safety Management (ISM) Program. The ISM Program requires that safety be an integral part of all work planning at the SC labs. Operating procedures, as well as supervisor and employee training, are key to the success of the ISM Program. Each of the SC Laboratories has a documented and verified ISM Program. The SC Laboratories regularly perform self-assessments to identify performance issues. Corrective actions are put in place where deficiencies are identified. In addition, the SC Laboratories are required to report any safety incidents and fill out a report that includes an analysis of the incident and any corrective actions that need to be taken to correct the root cause and avoid such an incident in the future. |
