There is a need for capable systems to provide secure, robust data sharing between multiple sites to support the DOE vision of efficient remote collaboration. An enabling technology is a recently-developed Ring Buffered Network Bus (RBNB) data server software. With RBNB, widely dispersed users can collaboratively contribute, monitor, and analyze real-time and archived data using a broad range of custom and off-the-shelf software applications in a secure and robust environment. Phase I will be an on-line demonstration in which multiple data sources and sinks are connected, and the security, robustness, and functionality of the system evaluated. DOE applications that could benefit from this technology will be identified, and specific "interface templates" will be created to support custom applications and data encryption.

Commercial Applications and Other Benefits as described by the awardee: In addition to supporting data collaboration, the proposed technology has numerous commercial applications. Examples include manufacturing process control, aircraft flight safety monitoring, medical data monitoring, equipment diagnostic monitoring, vehicle testing, and enterprise data management.
