A new solid state detector is proposed, which is manufactured using standard silicon semiconductor processing, is inexpensive, which is highly sensitive to Cherenkov radiation, and which also has great promise for enabling a number of nuclear medicine applications such as SPECT and PET and bio-medical applications such as DNA sequencing.
