A novel dual-wavelength in situ cloud lidar flown on research aircraft and UAV’s will provide large-volume measurements of cloud microphysical properties, which are needed to compare with the inherently large view of clouds that satellites provide. This project will develop a new lidar that will provide measurements of cloud properties on the same scale as satellite observations, thereby minimizing biases from mismatched sampling volumes.
